This exceptional shear was developed using rapid prototyping capabilities at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) at the University of Sheffield. Endorsed by Master Tailor Andrew Ramroop OBE of Maurice Sedwell and tested by the Savile Row Academy, the scissors earned unanimous acclaim for their quality and performance.

Developed in 2015 by Jeremy and Sally Ward (née Whiteley), this shear was born from a passion for craftsmanship and innovation. Inspired by a visit to the Advanced Manufacturing Show in Birmingham, UK, it reimagines the iconic Wilkinson tailors’ shears, originally patented by ‘Master Cutler’ Thomas Wilkinson in 1800, blending time-honoured tradition with cutting-edge advancements.
Honouring its heritage, the shear retains the essence of Wilkinson’s pioneering design while introducing modern refinements. The collection features the signature bolt element from Whiteley’s professional shear range, ensuring effortless “pick up” and “put down” motions, alongside a striking aesthetic that sets it apart.
Perfected through meticulous 3D printed prototyping, the ergonomic handle design delivers unrivalled comfort and control. Each pair of shears is a testament to Whiteley’s commitment to excellence, available in a variety of finishes to suit every preference.
Formerly known as the EXO Shear, the name has been refined to align with the streamlined Whiteley brand, ensuring a more cohesive identity across our range. This change helps to preserve the focus on craftsmanship and heritage while simplifying the product’s association with the Whiteley legacy.
